Stanley Shipper is a Florence businessman who at one time published the now defunct Picture weekly newspaper. Mr. Shipper has been identified as one of the victims in last week’s two-car accident near Big Star Supermarket on North Wood Avenue and the man rescued from Cox Creek.
At the time of the accident, we identified four good Samaritans who stopped to help, albeit misspelling the last name of one. We now have the names of three more.
Randy Stricklin (whom we misidentified as “Strickland”) was the first to get to Shipper’s SUV and reportedly the last to leave. Next came Dr. Ken Hibbett who had an auto emergency tool which he used to break the window to the vehicle. Also present were Chris Jones and a Big Star employee identified only as Drew.
Both victims are reportedly doing well. Mr. Shipper was admitted to Huntsville Hospital for his more serious injuries, but is now home. All our best to both, and a special shout-out to those who stopped to help.
