Nicholas Daryl Alexander, known as Nick, has been charged with sexual assault after a grand jury indictment. Alexander, 31, was arrested Wednesday morning at 11:40 and bonded out of the Lauderdale County Detention Center at 12:15 Wednesday afternoon after posting 25K bail on the official charge of Sexual Abuse. If convicted, the Dora, Alabama, native faces a possible ten year prison sentence.
Nick Alexander has served on the athletic training staff at UNA since August of 2008. He first came to the school as a graduate assistant, and was later appointed to the athletic training staff of the University of North Alabama – Nick Alexander, ATC, LAT, MA Assistant Athletic Trainer (Women’s Soccer and Cross Training).
Alexander reports directly to Joshua Penny who serves directly under Athletic Director Mark Linder. He received an MA from UNA in June 2010.
It’s now been confirmed that the incident in question is the March assault that occurred on campus. The assault is said to have been a “groping” incident. Alexander was placed on administrative leave when the alleged attack was reported, but resigned in July, having remained on the payroll for four months.
From UNA today:
“The University of North Alabama is committed to providing a safe and nurturing learning environment for all students. A professional and well-trained staff addresses claims of sexual misconduct. Students impacted by sexual misconduct are provided strong resources and excellent support. After receiving allegations of Nick Alexander’s misconduct in March, UNA immediately removed him from campus and banned further contact with students. UNA reached out to the student and investigated. The investigation concluded that Mr. Alexander violated UNA policy. He resigned before UNA was able to terminate his employment. The matter is now with the District Attorney, and the University is providing its fullest cooperation.”
