Update: Troy Darby has been sentenced in Franklin County to one year in jail and five years on probation.
From June: Troy Lamar Darby is no stranger to Franklin County law enforcement. Four years ago the now 34 year old Darby was charged with the intimidation of a witness. In July of last year, he was arrested in Sheffield on misdemeanor charges.
Then late last year while baby sitting, Darby was accused of beating a three year old child with both his hand and a belt; he admitted hitting the youngster with his hand, but not a belt. Authorities say the child had bruising and welts over most of his body. Darby was allowed to bond out at that time while waiting for a grand jury hearing.
The Russellville man, reportedly an employee at Pilgrim Pride Poultry, was indicted on the child abuse charges earlier this month and has been returned to the Franklin County Detention Center. If convicted of the crime, Darby could face as much as 20 years in jail.
