Update: Multiple sources are saying Toys “R” Us and its co-retailer Babies “R” Us will close all outlets, probably as soon as Monday afternoon. Anyone with gift cards from the cash-strapped retailers are urged to redeem them as soon as possible.
So long, Geoffrey…
From February: If you just have to get your Toys “R” Us fix, you can drive to Huntsville or Tupelo…but maybe not for long. Financial pundits blamed the toy giant’s abysmal Christmas season on the uncertainty their September bankruptcy announcement caused shoppers. No matter the reason, a super slow holiday sales period forced the chain to announce 182 store closings last month.
Now the one-time Florence toy store has announced it’s closing 200 more. This will bring the number of outlets to one-half of the number the chain owned at its peak. It’s unknown if the Huntsville or Tupelo stores will be affected.
