FLORENCE, Ala. – Traffic homicide investigators are searching for clues in the Friday night hit and run death of a Florence man. According to Florence police, the incident happened in the 2300 block of Cloyd Boulevard.
Investigators say 57-year-old Kevin Doherty was struck by a small, light colored SUV while he was traveling down the road on his wheelchair. Doherty was airlifted to Huntsville Hospital where he died a short time later.
Florence police say Doherty was traveling west in the east-bound lane and was struck head-on. Investigators believe the SUV left the scene headed west and turned south on Mall Road.
Right now, Florence police need the public’s help in finding the driver and SUV which left the scene.
