Man Wanted in Murder Inquiry – Captured

A cooperative effort between the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department and Neshoba County, Mississippi Sheriff’s Department resulted in the arrest of Howard Jason Stewart (39) this afternoon.

Howard Jason Stewart is wanted for the theft of a motor vehicle and is a person of interest concerning the homicide of Barbara Harris.

Howard Jason Stewart was arrested for the theft of a truck which belonged to homicide victim Barbara Harris.

The truck and Stewart were discovered by authorities with the Neshoba County Sheriff’s Department and the Choctaw Police Department at a casino in Philadelphia, Mississippi. Stewart is in custody in Neshoba County and will be extradited back to Tennessee to face criminal charges.

From August 31st: Earlier today, a Summertown woman was found murdered at her home. Authorities say the body of Barbarba Lois Harris, 51, was found around noon; it was determined at the same time that her white 2015 Dodge 1500 was missing and presumed stolen by the same felon who took Harris’ life.

Wanted in connection with the two crimes is Howard Jason Stewart, 39. He’s originally from Lena, Mississippi, but could be anywhere in the tri-state area at this time. If you have any information concerning Stewart, call 931-762-3626.
