Press Release:

The Libertarian Party of Alabama has condemned Etowah County Sheriff Todd Entrekin for his authoritarian actions and abuse of power related to the arrest of Matthew Qualls.

Delegates voted unanimously for condemnation at the LPA’s annual convention on March 3.

As reported by AL.com, Qualls told AL.com that Entrekin used Prisoner Food Provision funds to pay Qualls for lawn services. Four days later, Entrekin had Qualls arrested – clearly a use of authoritarian power to punish Qualls for reporting Entrekin’s abuse of public funds. Sheriff Entrekin has admitted to using public funds for personal purposes and maintains that such use is legal. The LPA stalwartly opposes abuse of power, misappropriation of public funds, and the oppression of the First Amendment of the United States Constitution. The LPA is coordinating a fund to support Qualls’ legal defense.
