On 9-23-2017, officers with the Saint Joseph Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Highway 43 for a light law violation. During the traffic stop, officers found the driver, Dustin Randal Pettus (38) of Lexington, AL, to be in possession of a syringe to inject narcotics. Upon further search of the vehicle, officers discovered approximately 17.5 grams of methamphetamine, baggies used for resale, and a set of digital scales used to weigh the methamphetamine.
Dustin Pettus was placed under arrest for possession of a controlled substance sch II for resale and possession of drug paraphernalia. Pettus was transported to the Lawrence County Detention Center for processing.
Pettus has drug arrests going back at least five years, mainly in Lauderdale County. In 2015, while living in Killen, Pettus and his brother Kelby were arrested and charged with conspiracy to traffic in drugs.
