One pretty day last week, a buddy and I spent the day out on the river fishing. We didn’t catch much, but we still had a good time.

About lunch time, amid various discussions about ‘which bait to use’, or this year’s baseball season, my buddy asked me if I’d heard anything about a new ‘speed trap’ in the area?  Well, as a matter of fact, I had…on a couple of occasions.

Just the other day when my wife and I were checking out at the grocery store, the gentleman in front of us was complaining about being ticketed for speeding. He claimed he’d never received a ticket before in his life, and he’d been driving for almost 60 years.  Then, when I was filling up at the gas station, a young lady at the next pump was talking on her cell phone about having just received a speeding ticket.  She was in tears.

From other things I’ve heard lately, our lovely little town of Rogersville has a new, rather unflattering, reputation.  It seems Rogersville is no longer known as ‘The Catfish Capitol of the World’.

Yours truly,

Elk River native
