If Leonardo DiCaprio’s plans go smoothly, he’ll soon morph into Florence native Sam Phillips. DiCaprio and Paramount Pictures have purchased the rights to a Phillips biography and plan to bring the Shoals music icon’s story to the big screen.
A Sam Phillips music festival was short-lived in Florence, but the man who moved to Memphis to make his name is fondly remembered in the Shoals where he still has relatives. There’s no word on an actual script yet, so filming is not in the immediate future. That gives all our area’s great singers time to practice their Million Dollar Quartet routines for possible local casting.
