Smiling county commissioner Bobby Burch announced Friday that a new Lawrence County, Alabama, animal shelter has been again delayed. Burch claimed soil tests were the reason for the delay; however, he announced at the same time that the county was seeking a TVA grant to help with the financial end of the construction.
Burch also addressed complaints against animal control officer Kimberly Carpenter who has been accused of under-performance, or even nonperformance, in her job. There were no announced personnel changes at the meeting.
Lawrence County is currently using a rescue organization to house the county’s stray dog and cat population. The county recently came under fire from the Colbert Animal Shelter for not providing proper animal control services. It’s now apparent that Lawrence County will not make its promised deadline to have these problems resolved.
