Hit & Run in Florence – Update

Update: Florence police are still searching for the driver of a small SUV who left the scene of an accident on Cloyd Boulevard. Witnesses say at approximately 9:00 p.m. Friday night the SUV was traveling east between Darby Drive and Mall Road when it collided with a motorized wheelchair. The operator of the wheelchair (reportedly male) was thrown from the conveyance, and the driver fled the scene. The vehicle may have extensive front end damage.

The victim, who is reported to be in serious condition, was air-lifted to Huntsville Hospital. No further updates have been reported. Leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, whether responsible or not, is a Class C Felony in Alabama, punishable by up to ten years in the state prison system.

Last seen traveling east on Cloyd toward Mall Road. The victim in this case was in a wheelchair when struck and has been flown from the scene with serious injuries.
