A 29 year old Vinemont man has been arrested in Franklin County and charged with First Degree Kidnapping, reportedly the result of a hostage situation. Authorities took Curtis Edward Arturo Bakley into custody on Sunday, also charging him with First Degree Assault on a Police Officer.

Bakley is no stranger to law enforcement. In 2016, he led officers on a high speed chase from Vinemont to Decatur. Yesterday’s incident was eerily similar, the result of a state trooper attempting to stop the unemployed Bakley for speeding on Highway 24. A female passenger, allegedly Bakley’s deaf-mute former girlfriend, informed the officer that she had been kidnapped as Bakley led police on the chase that ended in Mississippi. The felon hit two police vehicles during the chase, resulting in the First Degree Assault charges.

Bakley also has a 2015 drug possession arrest and an attempting to elude police arrest from July of this year. He now faces not only current charges, but a probation revocation in Cullman County in the 2016 incident. He remains in the Franklin County Jail without bail.
