Limestone County authorities say a second-grader at Johnson Elementary School was struck by a vehicle Tuesday afternoon shortly after she exited a school bus. Reports indicate that Ashley Jones disembarked the bus around 3:15 and walked into her front yard in the 27000 block of Copeland Road; she then ran behind the bus into the street where she was struck and critically injured.
Jones’ brother later said the girl was attempting to retrieve mail from the family box located across the street from their home. The eight year old East Limestone girl was transported to Children’s Hospital in Birmingham where she’s in dire condition. No charges are expected to be filed against the driver of the vehicle that struck Jones.
