March 2017 Update: Cornell Phillips is currently serving an 8 year sentence in the Bibb Correctional Facility for possession of a controlled substance. Earlier this week he was returned to Colbert County to face the attempted murder charges from August 2016.
Update from August: Phillips was captured late this afternoon after a brief police chase. Authorities say Phillips drove down a dead-end street in Muscle Shoals and wound up in a swimming pool. Drugs and a passenger were also found Phillips’ vehicle.
Cornell Lamar Phillips is wanted for questioning by the city of Tuscumbia in connection with a Friday night shooting. Authorities say Phillips, 37, and a companion were involved in an altercation with the victim and her boyfriend around nine o’clock at Ballew Apartments on Highway 43.
Anyone with information about the shooting or anyone knowing the whereabouts of Phillips is asked to call the police at 256-383-3121, or Shoals Crime Stoppers at 256-386-8685.
From August 2013:
They say you can’t keep a good man down, but in some cases it would appear that’s true of others as well. In 2009, Cornell Lamar Phillips was arrested in Franklin County on charges of illegal drug possession and illegal possession of a firearm by a felon. In 2012, the then 33 year old Phillips was bagged in the major drug sweep in Franklin County that netted over 140 individuals. Now Phillips was arrested on Wednesday in Colbert County for attempting to sell illegal drugs. Is it possible our system isn’t working?
