Carlton Heath Utley, 39, passed away on Monday, June 26, 2017, after a tragic accident. He was born on Nov. 24, 1977, to Carl Edward Utley and Catherine West. He graduated from Colbert Heights High School, Calhoun Community College, and received his masters from UAB in public safety. He was elected Colbert County Coroner in 2007 and took great pride in his obligation to the community members. He also was a paramedic with Keller EMS, assistant chief at Spring Valley Fire Department, and local business owner. Although he served his community well, his greatest pride was his family.

He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Michelle Reece Utley; son, Carlon “Boo” Utley; and daughters, Tatum Brooke and Alexah Rae; father, Carl Edward Utley (Sheila); mother, Catherine West; grandmother, Louise Utley; and a host of loving in-laws, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by grandfathers, Carl A. Utley and Homer West; cousin and “mamaw”, Mary Sanders; and special buddy, Robert Michael Reaves.

The family will greet friends Saturday, July 1, 2017, from noon-2 p.m. at Colbert Memorial Chapel with service immediately following. Brother Greg Beasley and Brother Truman Sutton will be officiating. Burial will be in Poplar Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers are Keith Reaves, Jeremy Reaves, Justin Reaves, Justin Gasque, Eric Berry, Richard Bohannon, Chris Moreland, and Jeff Kilgore. Honorary pallbearers are the 2016 Colbert Heights micro football team, Spring Valley firefighters, Colbert County assistant coroners, and employees of Keller EMS.

A special thanks to the Spring Valley Fire Department local EMS/ Fire/ Police and community members for the love and support shown to our family during our devastating loss.
