The family of Jackson Schrimsher, a sailor stationed on the U.S.S. Fitzgerald, reports that the 2012 East Limestone grad is unhurt. Jackson’s grandmother Rita Schrimsher has spoken to him and he is well. According to Jackson, the Fitzgerald had only arrived in its home port on June 7th after 112 days at sea. The extent of damage to the Fitzgerald after the Friday collision with the Philippine cargo ship is unknown; seven sailors remain missing.

Jackson Schrimsher, 23, is pictured at far right in this group he calls the best division mates anyone could have. There were slightly over 200 sailors on board the ship, so it’s highly probable that Jackson, a track & field star in high school, knows at least some of the missing. We at PNS are hopeful these seven sailors will be found safe.
