The Italian grocery giant Aldi’s has announced a massive expansion set to make the discount grocer the third largest in the U.S. A spokesman has said 400 new stores will be added by the end of 2018, with 500 more over the next decade. Aldi’s currently owns two stores in the Shoals. There’s been no official word where the new stores will be added.

Currently Kroger is the country’s leading grocery store outlet, with Safeway running second. Kroger left the area several years ago, ostensibly over a labor dispute. During an expansion a few years ago, the company said it had no plans to return to the Quad-Cities.
